President Trump has terminated the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, turning our nation’s back on undocumented youth who are valued members of our communities. The consequences are immediate, devastating, and profound. No new DACA applications are being considered, and DACA recipients will soon see their protection revoked. DACA has protected nearly 800,000 immigrant youth from deportation and allowed them to work, travel, and attend school. Representatives Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) and Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-1) have launched a “discharge petition,” H.Res.508, to force the House of Representatives to vote on the Dream Act of 2017, which would provide a permanent legislative solution and pathway to citizenship for Dreamers around the country. Overwhelming, Members of Congress believe it is wrong to deport immigrant youth. Our faith and moral light guide us to stand with Dreamers and urge our Members of Congress to take action today.
