URGENT ACTION: TELL YOUR U.S. SENATORS TO OPPOSE ANTI-SANCTUARY CITY BILL THAT FORCES POLICE TO TARGET IMMIGRANTS

Right now, Congress is considering legislation that would force and coerce local police to serve as immigration enforcement officers. S.3100, the so-called “Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act” would reverse years of intentional, community-based policing efforts that are vital to public safety in neighborhoods across the country. This bill would punitively withhold federal funding for cities with community trust policies in place.

S.3100 would not make communities or cities across the United States any safer. By reporting and detaining immigrants solely for being undocumented, this bill would place undue burden on local law enforcement and undermine the trust between immigrant communities and local police. When all individuals can report dangerous situations and seek protection from violence without the fear of being deported and separated from their families, safety increases for everyone. What we need are inclusive policies that respect the efforts of local law enforcement to build trust and protect all members of our communities.

Tell your U.S. Senators to oppose S.3100, the “Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act”:

Call 202-224-3121!

Here’s what you can say:

“I’m (name) from (city or county) and I’m calling to ask the Senator to oppose S.3100, the “Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act” and other anti-immigrant proposals. This bill turns local police into immigrant enforcement agents. As a person of faith, I expect the Senator to stand with our communities and against politicians who want to separate immigrant families and spread fear using our tax dollars.”

Call that number twice to reach both of your U.S. Senators. You can also tweet your U.S. Senators and your network: .@SENATOR, Our community welcomes #immigrants. OPPOSE S.3100, the so-called “Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act”
