Snapshot on the National Advocacy Center of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd

“We project a mighty voice”

Washington, DC – This is the latest in a series of “snapshots” on the Interfaith Immigration Coalition (IIC) and its member organizations.

Who They Are: The National Advocacy Center of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd (NAC) educates and develops strategies to address social justice issues and works for the transformation of society to the benefit of all people, especially for women and girls living in poverty and on the margin of society. NAC is a voice for the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd and Partners in Mission. (https://www.gsadvocacy.org / @NAC4Justice)

What They Do: At the federal level, NAC encourages just policies and, when needed, proposes alternative policies that benefit those on the margin. In partnership with other organizations, NAC advocates for legislation to prevent human trafficking; end domestic violence; fight poverty; promote compassionate immigration reform while addressing root causes; achieve full social and economic equality for women in the workplace; confront racism; protect the environment; secure adequate housing for all; and reduce gun violence.

Where They Operate: NAC brings the voice and values of the Good Shepherd to the federal level informed by the work of the Congregation, Partners in Mission, and those they serve in the United States and internationally. Working for change in the structure of society, NAC organizes the Good Shepherd constituency to petition the U.S. Congress to act favorably on issues that affect those on the margin, especially women and girls who experience poverty, exploitation, vulnerability, and marginalization.

Core Value: NAC embodies the spirituality, history, and mission of the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd, working in solidarity with those who have been disenfranchised, especially women and girls.

Noted For:

At NAC, we pride ourselves on being a small organization but, thanks to our collaboration with other organizations, we project a mighty voice. With others, we build awareness and encourage social activism to further our legislative policies and social justice issues.

Keep alive within you and bring under wise control that courage which makes you long to undertake great works, which others might consider it folly to attempt.
